An Unbelievably True Story
Many people try to run away from their problems. Few run away to join the circus. I did both.
When I was twenty-three-years-old, I abandoned a blossoming career in retail management to travel the United States and perform as a clown with Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus. It was a childhood dream come true, and I was the happiest person alive. But then the unexpected happened…
I fell in love. With a boy.
And while it was everything I had been dreaming about since I was fourteen-years-old (when I discovered my sister and I had similar taste in boys), I wasn’t out yet.
Chains of guilt, shame, hopelessness, and loss weighed on my heart and our relationship as I kept our love hidden in secret.
And then my worst nightmare came true – I was outed in a national publicity article for the circus.
